Routine Appointments

Regular appointments or referrals can be made by calling 205-338-1111 during regular business hours – Monday through Thursday 8:00AM CST to 4:00PM CST and Friday 8:00AM CST to 2:00PM CST. A brief explanation of the case to our front desk staff will allow them to select the doctor whose specialty area is most appropriate to expedite your appointment. We do not accept online or email appointments – working around our client’s schedules and needs cannot be reduced to an impersonal email and important messages can be lost in a mass of electronic contacts. We had rather talk directly to you.

Who can make referrals?

Referrals may be made by either the referring veterinarian OR the agent/trainer of client directly. If the referral is made by the client or trainer – we would prefer to have contact with the regular veterinarian prior to the horse’s visit for more in-depth case history and results of diagnostic test and/or lab work.

Emergency Referrals

There is always a veterinarian on call by dialing 205-753-0451 (AFTER 4:00PM CST Monday – Thursday and 2:00PM CST Fridays, and all day on weekends and holidays) and your emergency call should be answered or directly returned within 10 minutes when you leave a message.  However, the emergency doctor is not always at the hospital or may not be immediately available (if in an emergency surgery or procedure).  IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that the on-call doctor is contacted BEFORE SHIPPING THE HORSE.  This is for these reasons:

1. Rarely, we cannot accept new cases immediately and it may be best that the emergency is either stabilized further at the farm prior to shipping or shipped to another referral facility.
2. An estimate of charges needs to be provided including the required deposit. Unprepared clients with uninformed expectations are often upset with their referring veterinarians as well as sometimes having made an unnecessary trip.
3. After-hours fees are necessary to provide the medical and technical support needed for handling injuries and emergencies.
