New Diagnostic Tools
One important service that sets Coosa Valley Equine Center, PC from other equine veterinarians is our diagnostic laboratory services. Being able to conduct an important test like an MRI on your animal can be crucial to effective treatment. Our Equine Center is the only facility in Alabama to offer these new diagnostic tools and we look forward to taking care of your total animal health needs.
New Diagnostic Tools:
- We are proud to add three of the absolute latest diagnostic modalities. These are available to our hospitalized and appointment cases. Took for a faster turnaround than reference labs offer and of the same accuracy.

- The newest method to diagnose some of our most contagious conditions
- Done by detection of DNA of infectious organisms
- Done in house within a 2-hour test-run time

*Salmonella
*Strangles / Streptococcus Equi
*Equine Herpes Virus (EHV) / Rhinopneumonitis Neurologic Form
- These are highly contagious conditions that can lock down horse shows, training and boarding facilities and yes even veterinary clinics. (The Auburn University Large Animal Teaching Hospital was recently totally shut down for four days because of a Herpes Virus suspect.)
- CUSHINGS SCREEN
- In house testing for ACTH levels
- Including TRH-response testing
- 30-minute test-run time
- No shipping to outside labs and waiting days for results.
- Immediate screening for horses in need of systemic or joint therapy with corticosteroids reducing fear of complications such as laminitis
- CYTOLOGY BY TRANSMITTED AI TECHNOLOGY
- Advanced CBC (white blood cell) analysis cell by cell, not just counting
- Abdominal fluid analysis
- Respiratory fluid analysis (Broncho-Alveolar-Lavage)
- Uterine cytology for reproduction
- Multiple analysis for tissue, fluids and even fecal egg counts for population specific identification
